One day I set off to the post office in Fort, which is Mumbai’s General Post Office. I found the whole place had unexpectedly been decorated, inside and out, in celebration of the Post Office’s anniversary.
On the floor there were these beautiful designs made in coloured powders.
There was a scale model of the whole GPO building on display, surrounded by plants. The columns of the post office interior were hung with tinsel and streamers.
These were the displays outside, on the steps, beside the railings, and on the bare ground. I was standing looking at them until the Post Office security guard chased me away.
